If you’re looking for the perfect way to boost your intake of turmeric, then look no further. From tablets to teas, in this blog post, we’ve shared the very best way to supplement your diet with turmeric.

  • A turmeric shot

Now, you might think that we’re being a little biased by putting a shot at the top of the list when it comes to the best ways of taking turmeric. However - allow us to explain.

Here at The Turmeric Co., we’ve been researching the benefits of turmeric for the last decade. That’s because the active ingredient in turmeric (curcumin) has natural anti-inflammatory properties that when combined with piperine (black pepper) can support the body in numerous ways - including assisting with recovery, calming the mind and bolstering your immune system.

A shot of turmeric allows other ingredients such as black pepper to be added to turmeric to help it be as powerful as it can be. This is really important in order to get the most out of your turmeric supplement, as black pepper can increase the absorption of curcumin (the bioactive compound found within turmeric) by up to 2,000%. We’ve previously written a blog on what curcumin is and its many advantages, but this powerful compound is responsible for the majority of turmeric’s health benefits, which is why it’s important to supplement turmeric in a way that retains curcumin. Since curcumin has poor bioavailability, these levels naturally deplete in the drying process, which is why it’s recommended to take a supplement where turmeric is still in its purest form, such as a liquid shot.

Better still, liquid supplements are absorbed more quickly and efficiently into the bloodstream than their physical counterparts (such as tablets and food), as they do not need to first be broken down in order to be absorbed.

  • Tablets

The reason we’ve included tablets in second place on this list is simply because of the convenience. They are small, can be carried around and stored at room temperature, which does make them very handy for those looking to get a turmeric boost on the go.

When buying turmeric tablets, be sure to check how much turmeric is contained within each. Our turmeric shots contain 30g of raw turmeric in each shot - so use this as a benchmark when doing your research.

  • Turmeric powder

Turmeric powder is a convenient way to supplement your diet with turmeric. However, the key here is to find turmeric powder with a high concentration of curcumin, and also to then use your turmeric powder within a meal or drink

Look for organic turmeric powders, as this way you will avoid chemicals and preservatives. When using turmeric powder, try to add black pepper to your meal, as black pepper (piperine) supports the absorption of curcumin (the active and natural anti-inflammatory compound found within turmeric).

  • Homemade drinks and smoothies

As we mentioned above, adding turmeric to a liquid is a really effective way to absorb the benefits of curcumin into the body.

Making a homemade drink or smoothie, whether that’s a turmeric-infused tea, turmeric latte or turmeric and ginger smoothie, allows you to easily consume more turmeric while benefiting from ingesting a range of additional vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

  • Food

A really effective way of getting more turmeric into your diet without needing to make too much effort is to add turmeric powder into your food. Turmeric goes really well in cuisines such as Thai, Indian, Mexican and even Italian. Essentially, if your meal is packed with flavour, then turmeric is a great spice to add to the mix.

  • Raw turmeric

Unsurprisingly, consuming raw turmeric is at the bottom of our list. Although this might seem like an effective way to supplement your diet directly with more turmeric, in reality, it’s not all that effective, or pleasant.

Turmeric has quite a strong flavour, and consuming it on its own is not a very enjoyable experience. It also needs to be broken down and when consumed without piperine (black pepper), its absorption is not as effective.

If you’re looking for a great way to get more turmeric into your everyday diet, then why not try a box of our turmeric shots.
