Not every day starts in a room full of knee specialists. This one did - and we wouldn't have missed it.

The Turmeric Co. recently supported the Surrey Knee Symposium, an annual event that brings together surgeons, physiotherapists and allied health professionals to share knowledge on knee treatment, surgery and rehabilitation.

It's a day built for the people managing pain, rebuilding strength and helping patients get moving again - and we were glad to be part of it.

What is the Surrey Knee Symposium?

The Surrey Knee Symposium is a well-established fixture on the UK orthopaedic calendar, convened by specialist knee surgeons and drawing a national (and often international) faculty.

Previous editions have welcomed well over a hundred delegates, both in the room and joining online, spanning consultant surgeons, physiotherapists, and the wider allied health community involved in knee care.

The agenda covers the full picture of knee health: surgical technique, non-surgical management of arthritis, postoperative rehabilitation, and the strength and conditioning work that bridges the gap between "recovered" and "back to full performance". It's exactly the kind of detail-led, evidence-based discussion we think deserves more attention outside clinical circles too.

Why showing up in these spaces matters to us

It's a genuine privilege to spend a day with the people working on the front line of healthcare. These are the experts helping patients manage pain, recover from injury and rebuild the strength to move confidently again - and their work rarely gets much airtime outside of clinical journals.

For us, being in that room isn't about claiming expertise we don't have. Knee surgery, rehabilitation protocols and clinical decision-making are the domain of the surgeons and physiotherapists in that room, not ours.

What matters to us is building credible, science-led conversations around natural nutrition and recovery, and doing that alongside the professionals who see the results of good (and bad) recovery habits every single day.

Our own research found that nearly 4 in 10 people who exercise are currently dealing with some form of pain or injury, with the knee consistently at the top of the list. That statistic is exactly why we think nutrition and recovery deserve a seat at the table in these conversations — not as a replacement for expert care, but as a sensible complement to it.

Fuelling a day of knee talk with real food

Several hours of surgical case studies and rehab discussion requires proper fuelling too, so we kept delegates topped up with our raw turmeric shots throughout the day.

Turmeric's active compound, curcumin, has been studied for its role in supporting the body's natural inflammatory response, though it isn't a treatment for any medical condition. Our founder, Thomas 'Hal' Robson-Kanu, took to the stage to share his experience - from the knee injuries that shaped his years as a professional footballer, to how discovering real, whole-food turmeric became part of his own recovery routine, and ultimately led him to found The Turmeric Co.

It was a story that landed well with a room full of people who see recovery, day in and day out, from the clinical side!

The key takeaways

Days like this are as much about listening as contributing. Sitting among surgeons and physiotherapists gave us a clearer picture of how recovery actually happens in practice - the incremental, unglamorous work of rehabilitation, and how much it depends on consistency, patience and the right support at the right time.

It's also a reminder of where we sit in that picture. We're not clinicians, and we won't pretend to be. But we are committed to building products and content that hold up to scrutiny from the people who understand the body best, and to keep learning from the professionals supporting patients every day.
