Something big has arrived at The Turmeric Co. And at 104 tonnes, it’s making quite an entrance!

We’ve brought the UK’s biggest High Pressure Processing (HPP) machine into our Cambridgeshire manufacturing facility. It’s a major investment in our UK drinks manufacturing capabilities, giving us greater visibility and control over how we make our products.

For our customers, it’s another expression of the commitment that’s always been behind our shots: carefully chosen ingredients, carefully processed, with quality at the heart of every decision.

What is HPP?

HPP stands for High Pressure Processing. It’s a method of preserving food and drinks using water and high pressure, helping keep products safe while protecting their fresh taste, colour, texture and nutrients.

Once our shots are bottled and sealed, they’re placed inside a chamber filled with cold water. The machine applies pressure of up to 6,000 bar to inactivate harmful microorganisms and help extend shelf life, without relying on heat treatment or added preservatives.

The water surrounds the sealed bottles. It doesn’t become part of the drink.

The engineering behind it is just as impressive. Our new machine weighs 104 tonnes, with approximately 300 kilometres of wire wound around its pressure chamber.

All that technology has a very practical purpose: taking care of what’s inside each bottle.

Why we use HPP for our shots

We put a lot of thought into our ingredients. How we process them deserves just as much attention.

Conventional heat pasteurisation uses high temperatures to make food and drinks safe and extend their shelf life. That heat can also affect taste, colour and heat-sensitive nutrients.

HPP uses pressure to preserve products, helping retain the fresh characteristics of our ingredients. That makes it an important part of how we produce our raw turmeric shots.

We’ve always used HPP. This investment brings that same trusted process under our own roof.

Expanding our UK manufacturing capabilities

Bringing HPP in-house means our team now has direct oversight of another important stage of production.

It gives us greater visibility across the manufacturing process and more control over how that process is managed. It also expands the capabilities of our Cambridgeshire facility, supporting our continued growth.

In functional drinks and soft drinks manufacturing, how a product is processed plays an important role in its final quality. From the ingredients we select to the treatment of each sealed bottle, every stage matters.

By investing in our own HPP equipment, we’re strengthening our UK manufacturing operation and bringing more of those stages directly into the hands of our team.
