A dose of life. Story no. 01

Every single step is one more step towards okay.

Four months after a total hip replacement, Dave Wetherill lined up for the London Marathon again. On crutches. 26.2 miles. This is his story.

The story

Most people would have called it the finish line.

Dave Wetherill was born with multiple epiphyseal dysplasia, a rare bone condition he describes simply as arthritis times a million. He has used crutches every single day since he was ten years old.

For most of his life, movement was his profession. Dave represented Great Britain in table tennis at three Paralympic Games, in Beijing, London, and Rio. When his body finally caught up with him and he needed a hip replacement, he stepped away from the sport in 2021. Most people would have called that the finish line. Dave called it the start.

So he set himself an impossible task. He decided to run a marathon. Then he broke the world record for it, completing the London Marathon on crutches in 5 hours, 59 minutes, and 5 seconds, and raising more than £20,000 for type 1 diabetes charity Breakthrough T1D along the way.

This year he did the unthinkable again, returning to the start line just four months on from another total hip replacement.

"I'm coming into this marathon feeling probably the weakest I've ever felt. I'm a bit scared. But I will give it everything, never give up, and see what happens."

Raw turmeric shots made for people who keep showing up — one day, one step, one shot at a time.

Why he runs

It was never about the medals.

Every morning Dave gets up and chooses to move, and that choice is what he calls healing. Not the easy days. The hard ones. The ones where the only way forward is one more step.

That is what A Dose of Life is about. Honest stories from the people who drink The Turmeric Co. blends, told in their own words. Some are world records. Some are simply getting out of bed and going again. All of them count.

Dave's day starts the way thousands of others do, with a single shot and a reason to keep moving.

"Getting up every morning striving towards running marathons gives me a sense of freedom that I've never had before. That feeling of just being able to move is indescribable."
