The story

Ten weeks in the boot. She was out in three

Amy Truesdale is the undisputed powerhouse of Para taekwondo. World champion, Paralympic gold medallist, and world number one. After winning big in Paris, her sights were set on the 2028 LA Paralympics.

Then, under fatigue, she rolled her ankle. She knew straight away it wasn't looking good, and she was right. It was the first injury of her entire career, and it cost her the opening Grand Prix of the season in Rome, a city she'd never been to and had big plans for. Gelato. Black coffee. Never mind.

She went into a boot expecting to be there for ten weeks. She was out of it in three, because it healed that well.

So we went to Manchester, the home of British Taekwondo, to spend a day with her. Rehab first thing, strength testing on the injury site, lunch, then her first kicking session since it happened. What we found wasn't a secret. It was a routine.

"I was meant to be in the boot ten weeks and I was only in it for three, because it's healing that well. I think I'll be back to kicking a bit quicker than what I expected."

Where it comes from

She was raised not to ask for help

Amy's family is military, and she says it explains most of her. You march around the house. Her dad brought her up differently to her sister, and differently again because of her disability. Strict, and deliberately so.

It shows up in small things. Carrying lunch back means balancing everything on her head and trying to get a key in her mouth to open the door, then dropping it. She could use a bag. She could ask. She could do two trips. She doesn't, and she knows exactly why. Ask whether that's what makes a world champion and she'll say it must do, or maybe she's just daft.

That is what A Dose of Life is about. Honest stories from the people who drink The Turmeric Co. blends, told in their own words. Some are gold medals. Some are simply getting up and going again. All of them count.

Amy's day starts the way thousands of others do, with a single shot and a reason to keep going.

"He was very cruel to be kind with me. So that's where my independence and determination comes from, I think."

The part she doesn't have to think about

"I know how much they're going to benefit my body, help with my recovery, help with me getting back on the mats quicker. It's just a daily part of my routine, so I can't imagine not taking them now."
